''Six Degrees of Vincent D'Onofrio''...Andy Griffith...

WIKIPEDIA

Andrew Samuel Griffith was born on June 1, 1926 in Mount Airy, North Carolina and was an only child.  It was the same day as movie icon Marilyn Monroe.  He had an early introduction into music and humor; a shy boy he came out of his shell when he saw he could make his peers laugh.  In high school, Andy developed a love for the arts and participated in the school's drama program.   He studied to be a preacher in college but changed his major to music.  Andy went on to act in films in bit parts and also in early television.  He is best known for his 'Sheriff Andy Taylor' character on the long-running series 'The Andy Griffith Show'.   Also notable is 'Matlock' who was a country lawyer in Atlanta, GA.  I have abbreviated this post because I have already done a 'Six Degrees' with Andy Griffith yet it does bear repeating for such a well-known celebrity.  This morning, Andy Griffith passed away at the age of 86 and was buried right away with no autopsy or embalming.  Find the connection!

Andy Griffith always was one of my very, very favorite actors and personalities. Some people don't care for the "country" side of people, but he was so genuine in his show and acting, seems just as in his personal life. Mayberry-What a show! And I still like to watch Matlock too. He went out of the world in a quiet and dignified way and seemed to want quiet and solitude in death, being buried only a few hours after he died. Rest in peace, Andy.

Can I make just one more comment regarding Mr,. Griffith. In my opinion, he was just as big a star and celebrity as Whitney, and I just read an article in my newspaper that made me want to barf about the BET awards the other night honoring once again Miss Houston. Great singer and voice, but ....other than that, WHAT????I hope I don't offend anyone by stating this, but, Forget it!!How many times does the public have to do this??? Sorry.

Sandy, BET stands for Black Entertainment Television, LLC and its subsidiaries, including the BET awards. It celebrates the accomplishments of African-American artists. I don't think Andy Griffith would qualify.

One of the best if not the best show to ever hit TV. It will never grow old and stale, love it as much now then in the beginning. Every character on that show was awesome, Rest in Peace Andy Griffith for bringing us so much enjoyment.

While I loved the Andy Griffith Show growing up--it wasn't until I saw "A Face In The Crowd" did I really apprieciate what a really good actor Andy Griffith was. If you've never seen it, it's well worth a look. What's amazing about that movie is that it still applicable to the current political landscape. RIP Andy.

Vikeau, my husband and I both love that movie. Sandy, think I know what you are meaning, and if I'm wrong, sorry. Andy Griffith was a good man, part of Americana, there was no talk about him doing thinks that he shouldn't have been. Unfortunately the media concentrates on Sex, Drugs and Rock n Roll/bad behavior in general, that sells. The best example for me was Anna Nichol Smith, what did she really ever do? Playboy, marrying an old rich guy, not wanting to talk bad of the dead, but the media couldn't let that circus alone. I got so caught up in it, I'm ashamed to admit. People like Andy Griffith that die, the media will of course report, and then the next day that's done, people have a fascination with bad behavior, just look at some of those reality shows. With that, the Party Girls from the Andy Griffith show, OMG I love them LOL

Ducky, thank you for explaining to me what the BET awards stood for, I did not know that, and you are most certainly right. Andy certainly wouldn't qualify for that!!!I guess what I really tried to say, was enough already with Whitney, and you are all so right about the Public being curious about the media connected with the "wilder" side of celebracy. Guess I just got caught in a bad moment of Today's world. I'm okay again now!!Moving forward...LOL

Oh Sandy I knew what you meant--like Rose said the media loves the salacious and tawdry. Just look at all the magazines devoted to gossip. Besides TVLand is doing an Andy Griffith marathon.

Great answers! Although some would consider this show somewhat corny, I thought it had some very poignant episodes. My favorite was when Opie accidentally killed a mother bird with his slingshot and he went on to take care of the babies...Wynken, Blynken and Nod. The scenes between Opie and Andy are stunning in this episode.

I so agree, that show had some definite life lessons involved in the writing. I have watched that show when I was growing up and loved it all over again in my 20's, the humor was still the same. Loved Andy again in Waitress, another great in my estimation. He was another icon. I didn't see much reaction from Ron Howard tho, which surprised me.

I thought the same thing, sullie, so I did some poking around and found a wonderful post in the LA Times from Ron Howard...
