''Six Degrees of Vincent D'Onofrio''...Davy Jones

WIKIPEDIA

Davy Jones was born David Thomas Jones on December 30, 1945 in Manchester, England. Incidentally, he shared the same birthday with fellow band mate, Michael Nesmith. Davy begin acting at age 11 and was in the TV soap opera, 'Coronation Street'. His mother passed away when he was 14 years old and he left acting to train as a jockey. While training, he was summoned away where he went to perform in 'Oliver!' as the Artful Dodger. The show performed on Broadway and was nominated for a Tony Award. While in NYC, the cast appeared on 'The Ed Sullivan Show' on the same night as The Beatles' first appearance. Standing in the sidelines and watching the girls screaming and going crazy, Davy knew right then and there that was what he wanted too. He was signed by Screen Gems and appeared in episodes of 'Ben Casey' and 'The Farmer's Daughter' and recorded a couple of songs on Colpix that weren't received very well. His next gig was to turn out to be his most successful and what he is best known for...'The Monkees'. 'The Monkees' was a made for TV band and show that grew so much in popularity that the stars went out and toured. Davy was known as 'the cute one' much like Paul McCartney of The Beatles. The show eventually went off the air and the group disbanded but several tours followed in the years following. Many of you don't know what an avid Monkees fan I was and the collection I have built through the years. I have all the albums, bubblegum cards and various memorablilia. I also got to see them perform live in concert...minus Mike. Davy's autograph was the only one missing from my collection. Sadly, it will stay that way. Davy Jones passed away this morning at the age of 66 of a massive heart attack while he was sleeping in his Florida home. Find the connection!

Me too, everything and anything that was the Monkees' I collected. I was able to see them at a stadium when I was young, my first concert, all four of them, and will never forget. Also saw them again, minus Mike. I don't know the connection, but can't wait to find out. Brady Bunch episode with Davy?

Ah we're all telling our age here. My favorite Monkee was Micheal Nesimth (the smart one). Let's see Davey was the cute one, Peter Tork the goofy one and Mikey Dolan(?) was the funny one. Did I get it right? Like Rose I'm not sure of the connection but am really sad at Davey Jones' passing.

I am utterly and completely heartbroken over Davy's untimely passing. I, too, got to see them perform minus Mike and it was an entertaining and fun show. They were very engaging with the audience.

1. Davy was in "Head" with Dennis hopper
2. Dennis was in Rivers Edge with Keanu Reeves
3. Keanu was in Feeling MN w/ Vincent.

Davy was always my favorite Monkee, probably because he was an actor before he was a Monkee. I got to see them in concert, too, but all 4 of them were there. I don't remember the year. I have the program around here somewhere -- will have to dig it out. Anyway, I was thinking about 6 Degrees last night and came up with this one in my head, though I think you win so far, JoJo!!
4- Davy Jones was in Broadway's "Oliver!" with
3- Ron Moody, who was in the film version of "Oliver!" with
2- Oliver Reed, who was in the film version of "Tommy" with
1- Ann-Margret, who was in "The Break-Up"
0- With Vincent.

You guys are so smart, never in a million years would I have put that together. I saw them in 1967, the girls were going nuts, me included...

I'm still in shock, gotta say. I learned he had experienced chest pains just the day before. It was sad seeing Micky on 'Piers Morgan' last night. He's clearly very upset.

Davy Jones is in the upcoming movie 'Jackie Goldberg, Private Dick' with Jackie Mason who was on 'Chicken Soup' with Katie who was on CI with Vincent!

Thanks for all your great memories. I love reading them. Such a sad thing.

I didn't know that about Davy being in a film. Micky was very upset, and I read he knew something bad was going to happen the evening before and couldn't sleep. I loved all four of them for different reasons. In 1971 my parents were kind enough to take me to the Pheasant Run Theater in Illinois and saw Micky in a play Remains to be Seen, not only was it a good play, he and his wife at the time Samantha and their little girl Aimee were playing at the pool, which was really cool.

I met Micky when he was doing an autograph signing at a local mall. He was so nice and told me I looked nice. I met Peter when he and his band were playing at a club here in Pittsburgh. We got to go backstage and get an autograph. I know Micky's daughter, Ami is very involved with her acting career.

How cool, they all seem like such nice guys, and the impact that they made on a generation, so nice to see other Monkee fans, and hear their stories. Ami is so pretty, but haven't seen a pic of her in awhile, and Davy's girls are very pretty as well. Funny part, it seems a life time ago, and yet it was like yesterday being young and enjoying their TV show.

I'm way impressed with the 6 degrees of separation connections. And yes its impressive that a TV show touched so many people. Looking back it was a silly show but loved it all the same. As someone noted the shows were really the first music videos.

Been offline for quite a while (busy at work, computer glitches at home), but I couldn't pass up a six degrees challenge:

2. Davy Jones was in an episode of Boy Meets World (Rave On) with
1. Rider Strong was in LOCI: The Pilgrim with
0. Vincent

Although I didn't have a collection, I too was a Monkee girl! So saddened by his passing. I fondly recall when my uncle and his then-girlfriend-eventual-wife-now-exwife used to take the Mohawk bus to visit us from the city, and they would get off the bus up the street. I'd meet them, and the 3 of us would do "that walk" that was featured in the opening credits of the show- swing right foot out, swing left foot out...repeat! And we were just reminiscing about the Monkees last weekend...

You guys did awesome. Of course, Deb is still a killer player. Love all your memories. I think everyone did the Monkees walk at least once, Sharon, LOL.
