Updated at 1:30 p.m. ET: A young man clad in black and carrying two handguns shot up an elementary school in a small Connecticut town on Friday, leaving 18 small children and eight adults dead in one the nation’s worst school massacres, law enforcement officials said.
The gunman, described as a 20-year-old man from Connecticut, was later found dead, a federal law enforcement official told NBC News. A second person was in custody for a possible connection to the shooting, NBC’s Pete Williams reported.

'Broken Horses' starring Vincent D'Onofrio comes to Victorville
VICTORVILLE • A deputy with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department watched calmly as several large trucks blew through a stop sign in downtown Victorville on Monday afternoon.
“We’re here for the day to shoot a modern-day Western,” said Katie Valovcin, 22, a production assistant with Mandeville Films, as she helped with traffic control on the corner of Fourth and C streets.
Anton Yelchin, best known for his starring role as Pavel Chekov in JJ Abrams’ “Star Trek,” rolled into town with a group of nearly 80 to shoot a portion of the movie “Broken Horses,” which is set to be released in 2013.
Actor Steve Luna, who had a small role in Abrams’ film, said the production crew was using the exterior of the former El Rancho Theater for the actionpacked movie.
“We filmed the interior in L.A. and we’re using this theater for all the exterior shots,” Luna said. “The bad guy is using this border-town theater called The Alamo as his headquarters, and we’re his guys that go out and regulate.”
Just before sundown, as the production crew loaded several large trucks with sound and light equipment for the ride back to base camp, actor Carl Silva, 25, said he enjoyed his brief time in the Victor Valley.
“I have family who live in the area, so they had a chance to watch some of our work today,” said Silva, as a group of actors gathered around him for the ride back to base camp near the Victorville City Library on Circle Drive. “Downtown had a nice feel to it. The people have been very nice.”
Several large yellow signs reading “BH” were posted along Seventh Street, which directed the production team with several trailers, three semi-trucks and more than 50 cars to the film’s base camp on Sunday night.
The crew also filmed near the railroad tracks after obtaining all the proper documentation.
Director Vinod Chopra, who owns one of the leading film production houses in India, is at the helm of this movie, according to the Internet Movie Database, IMDB.com.
“I saw Vincent D’Onofrio from ‘Law and Order’ come out of the theater doors a few times,” said Justino Alcala, 23, who watched the filming along with nearly 40 others. “With all the action, I think it’s going to be a good movie.”
The film was shot in multiple locations throughout Victorville.

Dearest Ladies and Gentlemen allow me to introduce you to Trudy. A philosopher from New York, Trudy enjoys being outside, hanging out with friends, and acting in her spare time. Sound like a few people you might know? Well, what if I also told you she sleeps on the streets of NY, those friends are tiny aliens that sit on her shoulder, and her one woman sidewalk shows are actually conversations with just a fewvoices in her head…
The emboldened Trudy, along with 13 other characters from the mind of Jane Wagner, will be soon be given life by Eva DeVirgilis in the comedy Search for Intelligent Signs of Life in the Universe. DeVirgilis, herself a recent transplant from New York City, is thrilled to make her Richmond debut in Henley Street Theatre’s first production of Search for Signs.
“This is about how we all are alike, yet how we think we’re so different,” explains DeVirgilis. “Trudy, a bag lady, is the narrator and lifeline. She has a freedom about her because people call her crazy. She is free to say whatever the hell she wants. Her neurons are constantly firing, causing her to see all these different characters and people from all over the world.”
Originally made famous by Lily Tomlin in the eighties, this “single lady” comedy/drama by Jane Wagner has DeVirgilis portraying over a dozen distinct characters within 130 minutes. From a cocaine addicted health nut to a women’s movement activist from the seventies, DeVirgilis believes every character is still relevant in their own way.
“There’s a line that goes, ‘This is about moving the whole species forward, not just half of it,’” DeVirgilis states. “I’m speaking these words written decades ago that still bring meaning to today. We’ve already fought these fights concerning women’s issues. They’ve been embarrassed and humiliated. They’ve fought for us and bled for us, and now we’re back here again. It’s such a great reminder to speak about these women.”
Wagner, American writer/director and Tomlin’s life partner, discusses many social, cultural and life issues through scattered and scrambled truths. As an “outcast” for her own sexual orientation, Wagner uses hookers, addicts, and a homeless bag lady (to name a few) to show what it means to simply be human.
“This is a play where we’re all in this theatre together. Crying together. Laughing together- let’s hope!,” comments DeVirgilis. “That’s exactly what it’s about- being together as humans. We should be in awe of our abilities and capabilities. It all sounds very meta and lovey-dovey, but it’s truly what reality is when you begin to live in the moment.”
DeVirgilis warns those familiar with the original production that her own, at the Gottwald Theatre, will be a certain departure from Tomlin’s.
“I’ve never even seen Tomlin’s,” DeVirgilis confesses. ““I found a used copy of the script ten years ago, and have wanted to do it ever since. If someone is coming to see Lily, they’re going to be upset. I just wouldn’t be able to do it- that just came organically from her. I take what comes to me straight from the page, and go with it.”
DeVirgilis also revealed her top secret method for multiple character transitions. “I use this old school technique… memorization. I memorize like a machine,” laughs DeVirgilis. “I also take advice my wonderful acting mentor Vincent D’Onofrio once gave me. He used to say, ‘Eva, every show is an experiment. Every time you’re on stage is an experiment. Never think of anything as a neat performance tied up in a nice little bow.’ If I can accomplish that and experiment every night, then I’m discovering and learning right along with the audience.”

Larry Hagman was born on September 21, 1931 in Fort Worth, Texas and is best known for his roles as 'Tony Nelson' in 'I Dream of Jeannie' and J.R. Ewing in 'Dallas'. Upon hearing the news of his death, Barbara Eden, who played 'Jeannie' in the series, was so devastated she could not publicly speak and had comments sent through a rep. His mother is Mary Martin, Broadway actress and musical comedy star. She was just 17 when Larry was born and divorced her husband when Larry was five years old. He lived with his grandmother in Texas and California while his mother was a contract player with Paramount. Mary Martin remarried in 1938 to Richard Halliday and together they had a daughter, Heller, one year later. Larry attended Black-Foxe Military Institute, known for its strictness. His mother moved to NYC to continue her Broadway career while Larry stayed behind to live with his grandmother. Two years later, his grandmother passed away and he went to live with his mother in NYC. In 1946, Hagman moved back to Texas where he attended Weatherford High School in his hometown. He worked for an oil field-equipment company and was pressed by his father, a lawyer, to go to school to become one and join his practice. Instead, Larry was drawn to drama classes and fell in love with the stage because of the warm reception he received for his comedic performances. He began his career as a production assistant and acting in some roles for a theater company. Hagman was drafted into the military during the Korean War and was stationed in London. Most of his military career was spent entertaining the troops. Once out of the military, he returned to NYC and performed in several Off-Broadway plays. He also appeared on several live TV programs most notably 'The Edge of Night'. 'I Dream of Jeannie' followed and ran for 5 seasons. He would later reunite with Barbara Eden for several functions and publicity tours. In 1977, he took on the role of 'J.R. Ewing' in 'Dallas'. The successful show was seen in 90 countries and started a buzz when one episode found him shot begging the question, 'Who Shot J.R.?' Locked in a salary dispute, it was not known if he would appear for the fourth season and not until the final few minutes. His role on the show garnered him many awards nominations. Just this year, 'Dallas' returned on TNT for new shows. It is not known how Larry Hagman's death will be addressed in the new season. Larry was married to Maj Axelsson and has two children, Heidi and Preston. At the time of his death, they were married for 58 years. In 1995, Hagman had a liver transplant after being diagnosed with liver cancer. Being a heavy smoker, he immediately quit and was involved in anti-smoking campaigns. This past November 23, Larry Hagman passed away from complications of throat cancer. His family was at his side along with Linda Gray and Patrick Duffy, his fellow actors from 'Dallas'. R.I.P. I hope you all had the opportunity to spend some quality time with your loved ones for Thanksgiving. I had dinner with my brothers on Sunday since that was the opportune time for all of us to get together because they will be heading off for opening day of hunting season. A yearly tradition for them ever since they were younger and when my Dad was still alive. I had major problems with my internet connection. I could get on but couldn't access anything. Could be a glut of online Christmas shoppers or my carrier. Probably my carrier, but that's a long story. Anyways, hopefully I'm back and best wishes to all of you. 'Touring Stanley Kubrick exhibit lands at LACMA and it's a cinephile's dream'

LOS ANGELES – If LA film lovers are looking for something to do this holiday, look no further than the Stanley Kubrick exhibition at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art. A touring treasure trove of artifacts from the famed filmmaker's career that has already made stops all over the world, from Frankfurt to Berlin, Melbourne to Ghent, Zurich to Rome, Paris to Amsterdam, it has set up shop in LA through June 30, 2013 and is well worth the $20 admission price.
As soon as you walk through the giant glass doors you're met with a career spanning three shorts and 16 features, including the uncompleted "Napoleon" and "Aryan Papers," as well as the Steven Spielberg-directed "A.I.: Artificial Intelligence," which Kubrick developed. A pair of video walls in a dark room greet you first, with clips from a number of films to get you in the right frame of mind. Then the journey really begins.
There is a separate room or wing dedicated to most of the features. A brief wall with elements from the shorts and "Killer's Kiss," as well as a glass case featuring "The Killing" soon gives way to the first considerable presentation: 1957's brilliant "Paths of Glory." Twisting and turning through the exhibit you're met with costumes from "Spartacus," miniature models from "Dr. Strangelove or: How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb," bright white statues from the Korova Milk Bar of "A Clockwork Orange," art department elements from "2001: A Space Odyssey" including a simian costume and the star child model, the giant, NASA-developed lens used to capture mere candle light for "Barry Lyndon" and much, much more.
Off in one alcove is a thoughtful presentation of Kubrick's use of pre-existing music to
sometimes eerie, often visceral effect in films like "The Shining" and "Eyes Wide Shut." There you'll hear the sounds of György Ligeti's "Atmospheres" or Krzysytof Penderecki's "De Natura Sonoris No. 1" and "No. 2." Another detour offers pre-production imagery and an interview with a would-be star of "Aryan Papers."
Screenplay drafts, notes, production boards, sketches and models litter the expansive collection. One case is dedicated to Kubrick's many cameras and lenses, while another wall features numerous posters from his (relatively small but potent portfolio of work.
Most arresting is a scale model of the bedroom suite from the finale of "2001: A Space Odyssey," wonderfully lit and impeccably detailed. Though a major stand-out is the vast collection of "Napoleon" materials. It would be the most extensively researched film of Kubrick's career, with a pre-production boasting so much that Taschen dedicated a coffee table book to it. Yet it would never be made, and Kubrick would use the natural light cinematography techniques he was developing for the film on "Barry Lyndon" instead.
Also intriguing are the many informative elements regarding production design. Whether it's Anton Furst's creation of a bombed-out Vietnamese town at a strategically detonated factory in England for "Full Metal Jacket" or the gimbal rig used for the space station sequence in "2001: A Space Odyssey," Kubrick's films were marvels of design, and that isn't lost on the exhibit.
You could spend countless minutes peering into the scale model of the hedge maze from "The Shining." (The room for Kubrick's Stephen King adaptation features Jack Torrance's typewriter bearing one of the countless pages indicating his descent into insanity, as well as the framed photo of the Overlook Hotel's July 4th ball that eerily closes the film.)
Further to all of that, there is an entire wall dedicated specifically to the director's use of the color red throughout his career: the eye of HAL-900 in "2001: A Space Odyssey," the redcoats of "Barry Lyndon," Gomer Pyle's post-suicide blood splatter from "Full Metal Jacket," it's all thoroughly, fascinatingly analyzed.
As you walk through the final areas featuring elements from "Eyes Wide Shut" and "Aryan Papers," past a wall of film markers from the set of a handful of films, you might heed the security guard's warning: "If you go out here it's exit only." I humbly suggest turning around and going right back through the exhibit on your way out the entrance, because for Kubrick fans -- indeed, for fans of cinema -- once truly isn't enough.
